Oliva Cigar Co. has had such a strong response to its Oliva Serie V 135th Anniversary Edicíon Limitada that it has changed its plans. Released last year as a one-shot, 15,000-cigar run, the company will now bring it out annually, with two releases per year. The next shipment will go out on April 1, for Father’s Day, followed by a larger release in November.
“There was such unbelievable demand for these cigars,” Oliva president Cory Bappert told Cigar Aficionado. “They were sold out in hours in most cases.”
The blend isn’t changing: entirely Nicaraguan, save for the Ecuadoran wrapper leaf. The cigars will now retail for $10.50 each, a 50-cent-increase over the original price from last year.
Each box is lacquered, with a colorful scene from the Oliva farms in Estelí under the lid, and inside there are 12 cigars that measure 5 1/2 inches long by 54 ring. The company calls them perfectos, and while they have tapered feet the heads don’t have a taper, so Cigar Aficionado would classify them as figurados.
The April release will be somewhat small, 6,000 boxes, and the November release will be 15,000 cigars. Oliva, which makes all of its cigars in Nicaragua, said it would take more orders for the cigars at the PCA trade show in July.
