7月4日星期三,其中一名在竞赛中获奖的学生Hermawan Maulana在三宝垄说:“我们将这种工具取名为‘减少吸烟间内的一氧化碳与二氧化碳危险影响的工具盒应用。’”
Hermawan Maulana说,在感觉受到数量不断增加的吸烟者的打扰之后,他与自己的校友Zihramma Afdi一起开始了这项计划的研究。他们说,有了这个工具,含有一氧化碳和二氧化碳的卷烟烟雾就被分解为氧气和碳。

Afdi说:“在机器内,烟雾被分解为氧气,再回流到吸烟间里。除了氧气之外,过滤嘴器留下了碳,但是是可以再利用的固体形式。”
这两名学生击败了包括中国、马来西亚、新加坡、越南、菲律宾、台湾和日本在内的几个国家和地区的其他参赛者。
Thailand: Indonesian High School Students Turn Cigarette Smoke Into Oxygen
Semarang. Two state high school students in Semarang have received a gold medal at the International Exhibition for Young Inventors 2012 in Bangkok for inventing a tool that changes cigarette smoke into oxygen.
"We named the tool 'T-Box Application to Reduce the Dangerous Impacts of CO and CO2 in Smoking Rooms,'" Hermawan Maulana, one of the students who won the competition, said in Semarang on Wednesday.
Together with his schoolmate Zihramma Afdi, Hermawan said they began research on the project after feeling disturbed by the increasing number of smokers. They said that with the tool, cigarette smoke containing carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) is broken down into oxygen and carbon.
"At least smokers will feel comfortable inside the smoking room and would not smoke in other places that could disturb other people," he said. "We created this because we can't reduce the number of smokers."
Smoke is sucked into the machine, where an electric charge breaks down the molecules into their constituent carbon and oxygen parts.
"Inside this machine, the smoke will be decomposed into oxygen and flow back [into the smoking room]," Afdi said. "Besides oxygen, the filter leaves carbon, but in solid form that could be reused."
The students beat other participants from several countries including China, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan and Japan.
